Faro Airport granted with community financial aid
A community financial aid of 6,016 million euros was granted to Faro Airport Development Plan which was considered under the prioritary project number 8 – Multimodal axis Portugal/Spain-rest of Europe in the field of the Transeuropean Transport Network (TEN-T). The expected total cost of the action, whose implementation phase occurs between 15th May 2009 and 31th December 2013, is of 30,080 million euros.
The grant was obtained through an application submitted in May 2009 to a support line recently launched by the EU concerning european economic recovery plan. From the thirty nine european applications that have been submitted (twelve for airports), the Development Plan from Faro was one of the four approved applications of the sector.
Implementation of the project will significantly increase the processing capacity of passengers (2.5 million people/year), service quality (more boarding gates, Rx booths, rapid runway exits) and safety (reaching 100% compliance with ICAO Annex 14). The action will contribute to mitigate negative impact on the environment by:
- Contributing to the definition of friendly noise approach procedures - Reducing ground time, leading to a reduction of gas emissions
